What is Tai Chi?

Tai chi was developed centuries ago in China as one of the martial arts. Tai chi exercises involve slow and graceful movements that focus on relaxation, deep breathing and cultivating awareness.

There are many styles and forms of tai chi derived from ancient family styles from China such as Yang, Chen, Wu and Sun. The most common form taught in the West is Yang style.


What are Tai Chi Exercises?

Tai chi, like acupuncture and oriental medicine, is based on the concept of chi, a life energy that flows through the body and sustains physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Since blocked chi is believed to be the source of illness and disease, tai chi aims to improve the flow of energy through the body, thereby improving energy balance and restoring blocked chi.

Tai chi offers a low-impact exercise that builds strength, balance, and flexibility while lowering stress and calming the mind. It is an appropriate exercise for people of all ages and abilities.

What are the health benefits of Tai Chi?

Jessica Fritz is an instructor of Tai Chi with over 15 years of experience. She has studied in China as well as the U.S. Jessica currently offers beginning tai chi classes for all of her patients. These classes are free for current patients and members of Club 1 fitness club.
